Anise Cookies
Ingredients
1 cup shortening (half butter, half Crisco)
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. anise seeds
1/4 cup sherry
3 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
1 ½ tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
Topping:
2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
Directions
Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and mix well. Stir in anise seed and sherry. Add sifted dry ingredients gradually - mix well. Chill dough.
Roll out to 1/8” thickness and cut into desired shapes. Place on greased baking sheets.
Sprinkle with topping. Bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
